Types of work

  • simple construction/decorating – preferably with a visible outcome e.g. paint mural, decorate bedroom, construct chicken houses
  • feeding programme – preparing and distributing food
  • kid's clubs
  • helping in schools
  • opportunities to visit with local people
  • work alongside peer group in carrying out community projects

Activities will be planned taking into account the abilities of the participants and information gathered during the risk assessment & application process.

Outline of trip

  • 1st day at place of project: orientation, money changing, looking round, cultural sensitivity etc, plus visit place of project
  • Each day:
    • project activity during day,
    • meet first thing to discuss day,
    • meet in evening for review of day and prep for next day.
    • The review of the day will include addressing emotional, physical and, where appropriate, spiritual well-being, as well as providing opportunity to consider how the trip is changing outlook, motivation, view of self etc.
  • final weekend – visit place of interest, shopping, start Reverse Culture Shock preparation and debrief
