Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of work will be carried out on the trip abroad?
Each trip is unique, and the work undertaken on the trip will be specific to the partner that we will be working with abroad, planned after discussion with the partner to determine their current needs. The team will be informed of the details of this work prior to travelling, so that they are fully aware of what the work will entail.

What immunisations and vaccinations are needed for the trip?
Unfortunately, many of the diseases that the more developed countries have eliminated are still prevalent in other parts of the world.

Travellers to tropical countries as well as to many other regions will need to be vaccinated against these diseases. Examples include: yellow fever, hepatitis, typhoid fever, polio, diphtheria and many others.

In preparation for travelling abroad as part of the team, it is necessary for each team member to visit their own GP practice to get advice on the specific immunisations required. The 360 Trust staff will provide information regarding the finer details of where the trip will be going to assist in filling out the forms needed by the practice nurse.

How much luggage can each team member take?
Different airlines have different amounts of luggage that each team member can take. Depending on who the team fly with will determine how much luggage each member can take, but generally it is one 20kg bag that gets checked in, and a smaller piece of hand-luggage to take in the plane. Again this will be confirmed at team meetings, when members will also be advised about the special rules regarding liquids, aerosols, electrical equipment and sharp items in the luggage.

Are there any special clothes that the team members will need to have?
We ask that the team members wear clothes that are culturally acceptable to the country that they will be travelling to, however team members are not expected to go out and buy lots of new clothes for the trip. Acceptable clothes mean T-shirts with sleeves and that do not have low neck lines or cropped waists, trousers that are full length or three-quarter length, one set of smarter clothes, clothes that don’t look too scruffy or tattered. Trainer shoes or similar are fine for wearing out and about, plus a pair of flip-flops or similar for wearing about the accommodation.

What about bedding, towels, mosquito nets etc?
All mosquito nets and bedding will be provided for team members, but they do need to bring their own towel and any other personal hygiene items.

Are there any special items of equipment that need to be taken on the trip?
Any special equipment will be provided by the partner overseas, or sourced in the UK if necessary. The cost of this equipment will have been factored into the overall costs and will not be considered as an extra requirement, although it might require that team members carry some of the equipment as part of their luggage allowance. Team members will be advised of this at team meetings.

Will we be told about all the information given out at team meetings?
Yes, you will; and not just by us relying on the team members remembering to bring all the information home! At each team meeting we will hand out a sheet of relevant information that the team members can take home and share with family, carers, supporters etc; but we will also post the information on the website, and e-mail a copy to the named carer or supporter for each individual. That way there are fewer chances that the information won’t get home, and more opportunities for everyone to stay informed.

What communication is there between the team members and home whilst they are away?
Whilst the team are abroad on their short-term trip, communication with home is primarily between the team leader and a key worker in the UK. Regular e-mail updates will be sent to the supporters and carers of the team, as identified before the trip starts, and where possible a blog will be written by the team members that all supporters and carers can read on a regular basis to keep up to date with progress of the trip. The URL of the blogsite will be given to all before departure on the trip.
